Phoebe Bridgers is an American singer songwriter and producer from Los Angeles, California, also a member of bands boygenius and Better Oblivion Community Center. Motion Sickness (Dead Oceans digital single 2017) comes from her debut LP Stranger In The Alps (Dead Oceans 2017). Buy here.
Jason Paul (birth name Bruce Brown), born in the cathedral city of Winchester around 1945, and was   a member of Bournemouth beat duo Svensk. This is his only sole single, Shine A Little Light Into My Room (Pye 7” 1969), our 1969 UK pop-psyche rarity.
Here’s Spencer Davis Group with the single I'm a Man (Fontana 7” 1967), reaching number nine in the UK Singles Chart, and (slightly edited) number 10 in the U.S.
Next up, one of my favourite modern bands, Wye Oak. This is No Words, from their compilation Cut All the Wires: 2009-2011 (Merge 2021), which collected unreleased material recorded during their second and third albums, and accompanied the tenth anniversary rerelease of their classic Civilian (Merge 2011). It’s very good, and I’m surprised they didn’t release any of the non-demo songs originally (though one was obviously reworked as The Tower). Next week, I’ll conclude with a couple of more tracks from this LP.
We conclude with a brace from Ducktails, a music project led by American songwriter and guitarist Matthew Mondanile from Ridgewood, New Jersey. First, Ivy Covered House, from his fourth LP The Flower Lane (Domino 2013) and then we finish with the instrumental The Disney Afternoon, from his fifth St. Catherine (Domino 2015).
