Barry McGuire (website) was born October 15, 1935 in Oklahoma City and is an American singer-songwriter primarily known for his 1965 hit Eve of Destruction (Dunhill/RCA 7” 1965), actually  a cover of a PF Sloan composition, which was a US No.1, reaching No.3 in the UK. Later he would pioneer as a singer and songwriter of Contemporary Christian music.
Next up, Athens Georgia’s favourite sons, R.E.M., with the wonderful official video for Electrolite (Warner Bros CD single 1996), also on their tenth album New Adventures in Hi-Fi (Warner Bros 1996).
Our 1969 UK pop-psyche gem is Child On A Crossing (Middle Earth 7” 1969), the debut single by Writing On The Wall (website).  A progressive rock band from Edinburgh, Scotland, UK (1967 until 1973). The group originally formed as 'The Jury', changing their name to Writing on the Wall in early 1968. The band's manager, Brian Waldman, moved the group to London and let the band perform at his club, the Middle Earth Club. That same year, the band recorded a BBC radio session for disc jockey John Peel and made a live demo album as well.
We conclude with a couple from The Grateful Dead’s eponymous debut LP The Grateful Dead (Warner Bros 1967), their original composition Cold Rain & Snow, and then the much covered blues song Good Morning, Little Schoolgirl. Enjoy. Until next week …
