Chocolate Watch Band were a 1960's American garage / psychedelic rock band, formed in San Jose, California, USA, in 1965, releasing three singles and three LPs. Dissolved in 1970, reunited in 1999. Their use of distorted-psychedelic-style guitar made them one of the heavier bands of the period. Not to be confused with British band The Chocolate Watch Band. Here’s She Weaves A Tender Trap, B-side to their debut single Misty Lane (Uptown 7” 1967).
Next up, Manchester finest and John peel favourites The Fall, with the utterly brilliant 4½ Inch, from their 19th(!) studio LP Levitate (Artful 1997). “Ecstatic midges” indeed!
Next, German electronic dance producer reunited with his old jazz ensemble, Johannes Brecht Trio, with Equinox , from their LP Disparaître (CORE Records 2024). Buy here
The Twilighters were a Belton, Texas garage band active in the mid-1960's, who only released one single, Nothing Can Bring Me Down (Mark VII Records 1968). Excellent.
We conclude with one of my favourite underrated & overlooked bands, Rhode Island’s finest Throwing Muses, and two tracks from their seventh UK LP University (4AD 1995). First, the official video for single Bright Yellow Gun(4AD 7”/12”/CD 1995), then the wonderful That's All You Wanted. Brilliant band. Check them out. Until next week …
