Music Box February 22nd 2025

We start with an act and song completely unknown to me, Micropenis, with Listen to the Resistance (release unknown). The usually reliable discogs doesn't have this song under this title.
Next up, the excellent New Order, with the original 7" single release of  Temptation (Factory 7"/12" 1983 cat no. FAC63). Brilliant.
Next up, Red House Painters, an American alternative rock group, formed in 1989 in San Francisco by Mark Kozelek (vocals, guitar) and disbanded 2001. This is the promo video for their cover of The Cars song All Mixed Up (Supreme Recordings/Island CD 1996). For the full length version check out the LP version on Songs For A Blue Guitar (Supreme Recordings/Island CD 1996) in all its six minutes of glory.
Young Scum are a jangly Indie Pop from Richmond, Virginia, and here's Lighter Blue, the title track to their second album, Lighter Blue (Pretty Olivia Records 2024)  Buy here
We conclude with a tribute to 60s pop icon and cultural survivor Marianne Faithfull (1946-2025) who sadly passed away last month. Here are her two most important and pivotal songs. As Tears Go By (Decca 7" 1964)  written  by Rolling Stones trio Jagger/Richards and manager Oldham, though whether written specifically for her remains a moot point (Marianne herself contradicted her own recollection during her lifetime). Her debut single, it reached No.9 on the UK singles chart. After a decade of drug abuse and homelessness (she only released one album in the decade between 1967-79), she gloriously returned with vindication on the album Broken English (Island 1979). Here's Derek Jarman's promo film for the song, which was released as an edited single two months later (Island 7"/12" 1970). Here's the full length LP/12" version. Until next week ...
