Dr. Feelgood, real name Willie Lee "Piano Red" Perryman had amused and entertained rhythm and blues audiences since the 1940s with his zany, inimitable style. With his studio band The Interns his second single was Mr. Moonlight (US: Okeh/UK: Columbia 7" 1962) composer Interns guitarist Roy Lee Johnson, which The Beatles covered for their fourth LP Beatles For Sale (Parlophone 1964). This was a stage favourite of the band, allowing John Lennon to deliver the vocal opening, with a pause where the mainly female audience would scream, then the band would came in.
The Polyphonic Spree is an American choral rock band from Dallas, Texas that was formed in 2000 by Tim DeLaughter. The band's sound relies on a variety of vocal and instrumental colour by featuring a choir, flute, trumpet, French horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, percussion, piano, guitars, bass, drums, electronic keyboards, and EWI. From their debut LP The Beginning Stages Of... (Good Records 2000) here's the haunting Hanging Around The Day, Pt.2.  I absolutely adore this song.
The Poppy Family were a Canadian pop-psych group, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, featuring husband & wife team Susan & Terry Jacks (of Seasons in the Sun fame). They were popular worldwide in the late 1960s and 1970s. Herr's the gorgeous Free From The City, the B-side to their debut single Beyond The Clouds (Canada: London 7" 1968)
Next up, The Rock*A*Teens (sic), an Indie rock band from Atlanta, and the brilliant lyric video for the awesome Turn and Smile, from their seventh LP Sixth House (Merge 2018)
We conclude with the legend that is Lou Reed, and a double-bill of Vicious, and Satellite of Love, from his second solo LP Transformer (RCA 1972). “I've been told that you've been bold, with Harry, Mark, and John. Monday and Tuesday, Wednesday through Thursday, with Harry, Mark, and John”. Brilliant. Until next week ...
