Music Box 26th July 2025

We start with punk legends The Clash, and their sixth single Tommy Gun (CBS 7" 1978), from their second LP Give 'Em Enough Rope (CBS 1978). This official video includes the lyrics, which is just as well. Joe Strummer wrote some brilliant lyrics but they were undecipherable, even on record.
Next up, another legend. Rock 'n' roller Buddy Holly was unusual in that he co-wrote nearly all his own material, which influenced nascent band The Beatles, huge Holly fans. This is his eight single Words of Love (Coral 7" 1957) composer Holly. Only released in the U.S. john & Paul probably heard it on his second LP Buddy Holly (Coral 19580, released in the U.K. The Beatles covered it for their fourth LP Beatles For Sale (Parlophone 1964).
Quando Quango were an electro dance group from Manchester, UK. Formed in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1980 by Hacienda DJ Mike Pickering. This is Tingle, the B-side to their debut release, the single Go Exciting (Factory 12" 1982).
Donna Regina was formed by the husband and wife team Günther and Regina Janssen. This is Morning Mood, from their debut LP Lazing Away (Our Choice 1992), re-released digitally in 2024 Buy here
We conclude with another punk legend The Stranglers, though they were formed in 1974. Two official videos for two brilliant  singles of theirs. First the standalone single Bear Cage (United Artists 7" 1980), then Duchess (United Artists 7" 1979), from their fourth studio LP The Raven (United Artists 1980). Until next week ...
