This classic by The Beatles needs no introduction. I Feel Fine (Parlophone 7" 1964) was their eighth single and sixth consecutive No.1. Ringo proves here that if he might not be the best drummer in the group, he's the best cyclist.
Manfred Mann were a British band founded in 1962 by Manfred Mann and Mike Hugg as "Mann Hugg Blues Brothers" and later renamed to "Manfred Mann". The band's line-up changed several times before the break up in 1969. This is their excellent single Semi-Detached Suburban Mr. Jones (Mercury 7” 1966).
Our UK pop-psyche gem from 1969 is Seen Through A Light by duo The Mooche. B-Side to their cover of Bubble Puppy's Hot Smoke & Sasafrass (Pye 7” 1969).
One of my favourite modern bands is Baltimore Maryland duo Wye Oak. This is the lyrically wonderful If Children Were Wishes, from their debut album If Children… (self-released 2007, rereleased by Affairs of the Heart/Merge Records 2008). Hope you like it.
We conclude with a duo from V.V. Lightbody (website), from her debut LP Bathing Peach (self-released 2018). First 90s, and then Maja. Excellent. Buy here. Until next week …
