Music Box 17th September 2022

We start with Beach Fossils (website), an American indie rock band formed in 2009 in Brooklyn, New York. This is Birthday, from their second LP Clash The Truth (Captured Tracks 2013).
Count Five were a US band formed in 1964 in San Jose, California. Their psychedelic-punk hit, Psychotic Reaction, reached the US Top 5 in 1966. They first drew attention by wearing Dracula-style capes to their gigs. After recording one album, also titled Psychotic Reaction, they released a few more singles before disbanding in 1969. This is Psychotic Reaction (Double Shot 7” 1966).
Our UK pop-psyche gem from 1969 is this rather excellent cover of The Everly Brothers’ song The Price Of Love (Pye 7” 1969), a single only release by, of all people, Status Quo.
Two Pound Planet was a group from Winston-Salem, North Carolina that played power pop in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They recorded two critically acclaimed albums, "Songs From the Hydrogen Jukebox," which was produced by Mitch Easter, and "Whispering Delicious.". This is No Room, from their second LP (Alternative Records 1993). Buy here
We conclude with a brace of official videos from Porridge Radio’s LP of this year, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky (Secretly Canadian 2022). Their album of 2020, Every Bad, was one of the best LPs of that year, and this is their eagerly anticipated follow up.. First, Back To The Radio, then we finish with End Of Last Year. Buy here. Until next week …
