Music Box 17th DECEMBER 2022

We start today with Birmingham band The Craig (website) and the first of their two sole single releases, I Must Be Mad (Fontana 7” 1967).
Our UK pop-psyche gem from 1969 comes from Irish group The Freshmen, an Irish showband, founded in 1962. They released 3 albums and several singles from the middle of the 60s to the late 70s. The band specialised in copying the vocal harmonies of bands like the Beach Boys, to whom they were compared with. This is Mr Beverlys Heavy Days (sic), the B-side to their single She Sang Hymns Out Of Tune (Target 7” 1969).
Next up, Real Estate, an American indie rock band from Ridgewood, New Jersey founded in 2008 This is Past Lives, from their third album Atlas (Domino 2014).
Now for something from this year. Say Sue Me are a South Korean garage rock / surf band, and this is  the title track to their third LP The Last Thing Left (Damnably 2022). Enjoy. Buy here.
We conclude with two tracks from one of the albums of this year. Sunbeam Sound Machine is the bedroom recording come live performance moniker of 24-year-old Melbourne musician Nick Sowersby. After releasing his classic third album Goodness Gracious in 2019 (check it out. It’s brilliant) he started working in a studio and followed that with the brilliant Possum (Dot Dash 2022). From it are Timing Is Everything, and then Two Summers. Buy here. Until next week …
