We start today with the last cover song released by The Beatles (excluding short excerpt from folk song "Maggie Mae" on the Let It Be LP). This is the Larry Williams song Bad Boy, originally released in 1959. The Beatles recorded it after a request from their U.S. label Capitol for a new single. Eventually it was put on LP Beatles VI (Capitol 1965) in June 1965. Not released in the U.K. until EMI's Christmas compilation A Collection of Beatles Oldies (Parlophone 1966), but this was removed from their official discography in the late 80s. Fear not, true believer, as it is included on the Past Masters Volume One (Parlophone 1988) compilation.
Deux Filles are the duo of Claudine Coule & Gemini Forque(aka Simon Fisher Turner and Colin Lloyd Tucker). Some false tragic histories are related to this duo. After releasing 2 albums in 1982 & 1983 there was a hiatus but they've returned in 2016, releasing 2 more albums (so far). This is the haunting ambient piece Her New Master, from their debut LP Silence & Wisdom (Papier Maché 1982).
Next up, the seven inch single version of Messages (DinDisc 7"/10" 1980) by Liverpudlian synth-pop & electronica pioneers OMD. Love that repetitive synth sequence, and the gorgeous stringsynth chorus sections.
Sooner or Later were a Swedish band formed 1964 who released two singles. This is their debut, This Hammer (Fontana 7" 1966).
As we started with The Beatles last cover song, we conclude with two of the originals that they covered for their debut LP Please Please Me (Parlophone 1963). First, Arthur Alexander with Anna (Go to Him) (Dot 7" 1962). Then we finish with The Cookies and Chains (Dimension 7" 1962). Until next week ...
